Hey guys I'm building a gaming pc with a native resolution of 1680x1050. I have gone for these parts and wandering what ur valued opinions are, they are as follow:

AMD Phenom II x6 1055t
ASRock 890GX Extreme 3 Motherboard
Gigabyte HD 6970 2GB VGA
Antec TruePower 750W
Kingston 1333 8GB RAM
Antec 300 Case
WD Caviar Green 500GB

How is this build for 1680x1050 gaming at max settings for today's games.

Thanks guys!

If you have money left you can upgrade to i5 2500k, one of the best gaming cpu

Most folks opt for the 6 core cpus, thinking they ought to perform better, but, in fact, are outframed by X4s at the same clock speed in pretty much all games, the sole exception being perhaps if the user liked running Prime95, Super Pi, Seti, and burning/ripping/encoding 2 movies while gaming.

With the 2500K costing only $180-$190 at some retailers, I can't think of a single reason for choosing a similarly costing AMD-based rig...and I like AMD.

To be honest you don't need a 6 core CPU for gaming the 955 is fine, there is little benefit in getting the 890GX over the 870 extreme 3 so I would either save money and get the 870 or upgrade to the 890FX. A 6970 is overkill for than resolution, why not get a 6850 and if you think you need it get another for crossfire. As Barry said you could consider the i5 2500K as its amazing performance without the i7 9XX price tag.

Why does it outperform the x6? Wouldn't the other cores be idle?

I do however use Photoshop and Adobe suites as a hobby, but mainly gaming.

And I have a AMD based motherboard though, does it make any difference by selecting a 2500K? Isn't that new set of CPUs that just came out recently?

I hv a hexacore but would admit that all 6 cores are never used together as there are no such applications or games in the present world or future say next 2 years at least.

While hexacore is no way less then a quad,, however instead of spending money in getting two extra cores, get a quad and spend the rest on anything else say G-CARD, RAM etc.

Okay, are there any benefits to having 2+ internal hard drives? Faster write speed?

Nothing apart from greater storage space, infact it will only slow your system as your index file will be large, defragmentation will be big, will use more power etc.

I'm just pondering if there are any add-ons I should get for the PC, as I've got some moolah extra. Things like cooling (although I've got all the case fans), or etc. But not necessarily upgrades as these parts are new and getting an upgrade for a new exisiting part would be redundant.

I'm thinking more along the lines of like cooling or other stuff that would benefit the computer? I hope I'm making sense ahah.
