Need advice on a speaker set up

For some reason I am having a ton of trouble finding a good speaker system for my computer.

I picked this one up the other day:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836121044&Tpk=logitech%20z506

But it is terrible. The rears are terrible, the fronts hiss under mild stress and the lows sound terrible.

I have no preference of amount of speakers (be in 5.1,7.1 or 2.1), I just want some good speakers for gaming/music.

Any help would be very much appreciated as I anticipate returning these.

Most people have had satisfying results with the Logitech X-540 5.1,myself included.

Coupled with a decent soundcard it's a good budget set-up.
Onboard audio will limit results imo.
Out of curiousity do you have the latest audio drivers for your mobo?
It will make a difference usually.
  2. Thanks! I can look into that one. Is there a suggested decent sound card to go with such a set up?

The DG is a good starting point if you've never had a soundcard before.
You'll notice a difference over onboard immediately.
