Newbie needs advice

Well my first attempt at building my own system may have just gone horribly wrong. I got everything installed then when I went to power it on the fans started like it was going to turn on then it immediately shut down. Also, a puff of smoke came out from somewhere not really sure where though.


Here is the system...

CPU: i5 2500k
M/B: Gigabyte
Hard Drive: Western Digital VelociRaptor WD3000HLFS
GPU: GTX 460
Memory"8gbs of Ripsaw 1600



Any suggestions as to where to start looking?

No I didn't sorry. I guess I was just freaking out and didnt think to do a search or read the top thread. Thanks for the help though, I already see one of my problems

Ok I guess I'm kind of confused here. In the "troubleshooting" thread it says not to use the large ATX power connector and to use the 12v ATX connector. But in the step by step guide it looks like he used both, if you scroll down to the last picture it looks like both are plugged in.

So do I plug both in or just the 12v ATX power connector?
