How can i reset the BIOS on my dell mini 1012

I am trying to install a 2GB ram card in my dell 1012 in place of the 1GB factory installed card. In my manual, there is indication that the machine can be configured for the 2GB, yet it won't boot with the 2GB in there. How can I solve the problem? Can I access the BIOS and toggle to 2GB recognition?Is it that simple or am I going to find a jumper and move that?
