First off, if this isn't the right section then I'm sorry, please tell me the right one.

I'm wondering why my computer is scoring so much worse in 3dmark11 than my friends computer is.

My system:
Cpu: Amd Phenom II x6 1090t Black Edition 3.2ghz (stock)

Gpu: EVGA gtx460 x2 (SLI) OC'd to 800/1600/2000

Asus M4N98TD EVO

Ram: Gskill Ripjaws 2x2gb 1600mhz 7-8-7-24

My friends system:

Cpu: Amd Phenom II x4 970 at 3.5ghz (stock)

Gpu: Asus gtx 480 (not sure bout the clocks just know they're at stock)

Identical motherboard.

Ram: 2x2gb 1600mhz corsair 9-9-9-24

I score ~3400, while he scores ~4500.

Now I know the quad core is better than my hexa when gaming (although I've heard six cores should be better in benchmarks?) but still, over 1000 in score difference??...And my 460s in SLI should out perform the single 480...

I feel like I should outperform his computer in benchmarks both on CPU and GPU (assuming the thing I heard about benchmarks utilizing 6 cores is true)

I just feel like something must be wrong?

Atleast according to NVIDIA Control Panel my SLI seems to be the way it should be?

I just don't know what the problem could be...Assuming (and even hoping?) there is one...

Do you have any issues gaming with your video memory clocks set to 2000? I had a pair of OCed GTX 460s at 850/1700/2100 but started to get some odd spots here and there, so I throttled it back to 1800 and the issues went away. I don't know if that has an effect on your bench scores.

I too feel like your CPU should be close in terms of performance with his (even if 6 cores aren't being utilized).

Hey, thanks for the quick reply.

I haven't noticed any weird spots while gaming. Also my 3dmark11 improved by 300ish after the overclock so that shouldn't be the problem, or?

Sometimes OCing the video memory does weird things in games, but I don't know how it affects benchmarks.

You should also be able to bump up the Core clock to 850 without upping the core voltage.

Try comparing FPS in games and see if the results are different.

Hehe, I've actually been playing around with some OCing and testing for the past hour or so and upped my cards to 850/1700/1900 and cpu to 3,3 (still on stock cooler so not going that high yet ^^).

Score went up to 3547, which is a nice boost of 150 points. I'm still a bit confused as to why im still 950 points behind him... I've already pretty much clocked my cards as high as I'll go, while his system is totally stock clocked both cpu and gpu. Once I buy a proper cooler for the cpu I'll crank it up to just below 4ghz I'd imagine. But still then I guess I'd achive around the points he is at at a stock build! ;(

Hmm, thanks for the tip, will do that.

Yeah, he's getting better framerates on the GPU tests, which I think may causing the discrepancy.

There are sometimes issues with AMD motherboards and SLI. Just for the hell of it, try running the bench again with only 1 GPU at stock settings (should match that guy) and again with 1 GPU overclocked. Then try 2 stock and 2 overclocked.
That may allow us to determine if it is an SLI issue or an overclocking issue (I'm leaning toward the first).

Well I'm back after some testing and...seems you were right...
Anyways results:

1 card, stock: 3194 http://3dmark.com/3dm11/477169;jsessionid=A5250B2E79B7981976F745D3F04C7733?show_ads=true&page=%2F3dm11%2F477169%3Fkey%3DxCYj4qsKPkvTLQ2w9UnnnxnsuCadp5

Gahh really annoyed right now, many thanks for helping me find out the problem however! Now... how do i fix it ;O

Is there a gaming difference or a benchmark difference? My guess is the software counts single cards and CPU speed as priorities. May have no real significance but bragging rights.

Is it just 3dmark11 that doesn't notice the SLI cause when for example running EVGA OC Scanner that stresses the GPU both GPUs are under 90% + load.

Just don't understand why in the results it would say that I have 2 cards in SLI if I don't o.O Gahh I'm just confused... really not a computer genious -.-

Well, good news. I just downloaded the new NVIDIA drivers that came out 3 days ago and now I got a score of 5625!!(I'd assume it was cause of the drivers o.O) http://3dmark.com/3dm11/477798;jsessionid=99BA54E8C0BA226FE62F2D6971603BCF?show_ads=true&page=%2F3dm11%2F477798%3Fkey%3D3KAmCwYbYdCNkSETcLhsmfqfwJ8wU7

Only weird thing is that atleast according to the results page it didn't seem to notice my GPU overclock.

Anyways thanks a lot for all the help! Especially you, boiler1990 ;)

How do I pick a best answer o.O

I have no idea why the drivers would have fixed it, but I'm glad it did. Now you're making me want to benchmark and start folding (never really done either; attempted and failed).

Not a problem; that's what we're here for, even if it is just some simple debugging and blind luck ;)

I still haven't entirely figured out the best answer thing either, and I've been doing this for ~1-2 years now haha

This topic was opened as a discussion not a question so you cannot select best answer if you look on the right side above a post and notice the thumbs up and down that means it is a discussion, not a question thread.

Sometimes I do ask questions, and the option to select a best answer doesn't appear. I get emails about how I haven't selected a BA either...

BTW: Ran 3DMark11 and hit 1317 on extreme (lol) and 4147 on performance at stock settings. Just tried to OC my 470s and the benchmark crashed on me, and Windows was deathly slow even after closing the program.

Not really sure why it would happen, maybe a mod changed it or some issues on the server backend.
