Issues with new nVidia drivers bricking cards

A friend of mine updated his drivers to the latest version, afterwhich artifacts began appearing in the games he plays. He believes the drivers have damaged his second GTX 470 in SLI configuration. The details he gives me are sparse, and I've yet to play a game with the updated drivers using my GTX 460s in SLI, but I wanted to know if anybody else has had this problem.

I'm not blaming this issue on the drivers, because it could have occured any number of ways, but I'd like to know if anybody else is observing anything similar. I'll probably run a game tomorrow to test it myself, but if others are having problems it's probably best to wait.

unlikely. Its most likely a heat related issue due to inadequate air flow in the case or he has overclocked and gone too far.
