Graphics card making noise

Hi guys, so i came home today to discover my computer is making a squeaking noise. I narrowed it down to my graphics card fan. After turning the computer off and spinning the fan with my fingers it doesnt feel smooth like it should. My graphics card is a geforce 8800 gt. Is it possible to lubricate or replace the fan?

  1. You can try lubricate your fan with some oil, do not use too much, only a little.
And make sure your card is free from dust.
If that doesn't solve the problem then you might want getting a new fan, aftermarket cooler maybe...
  2. Ok thanks guys. Will not oiling/ replacing the fan kill the card? And do you know how easy it would be to replace?

Why would replacing the fan kill the card? I replaced the fans on my 8800GT's a couple of years ago and they still work fine.
  4. Did you buy a different fan or buy a replacement of the same fan? Thanks again.

I used a pair of Zalman VF900's that I had lying around.
