Is my canon printer compatible with my hp laptops

I bought a hp laptop and had a cannon printer pixma and i replaced the cord and it still sais it offline. Can you please help me thanks Sheron

Thanks for you reply.My cannon printer is mp810 would the lap top be pavilion dv6 Sorry I am not into these things.
