http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_711_1183&products_id=16387

More about intel
  1. I5 2500K on a p67 board would be it for gaming at the moment. Only reason to go with AMD would be because of lower budget.
  2. 2500k ftw
  3. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261222-31-build-advice <---- More info please...like budget, screen resolution, etc...
  4. Approximate Purchase Date: Motherboard some time this week, CPU i dont know

Budget Range: about 500 Australian dollars, cheaper if possible

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming (crysis, deus ex 3, metro2033 are most demanding) internet surfing, video editing

Parts Not Required: keyboard, mouse, speakers, OS

    Preferred Website(s) for Parts: http://www.pccasegear.com

    Country of Origin: Australia

Parts Preferences: Which ever is better performence and price whise

Overclocking: Maybe in the future (2-4years

SLI or Crossfire: in 2-4 years

    Monitor Resolution:1920x1080

Additional Comments: Other parts of build
    Case-Lian lia lancool K62 Bought
Hardrive- Western digital cavair black 1tb Bought
    GPU- AMD Radeon 6950
    PSU- XFX850W
    RAM-Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3
Monitor- I dont know probly between 22'-24'

So this good? If im only going to get a boost of 5frames i don't really want to spend an extra 50$
  5. intel for sure i5-2500k
  6. Why 2500k? Its alot more expensive and has no visible improvments except for the bettter GPU in it, which is useless to me.
  7. well 2500k if you want to OC otherwise you can pay $15 less for the 2500 which is the same thing just you cant OC. I personally am getting the 2500 as I dont OC but most people on these forums seem to like that option.
  8. I think AMD is unbeatable value at the moment.
  9. actually everyone is saying that sandy bridge destroys any AMD processor regardless of the extra cost.
  10. Sandy Bridge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Buying an AMD is the worst choice you can make right now, you will regret it go for an 1155 build

Intel does destroy AMD...it has since the first release of the C2D. People get what they can afford. If someone can't afford one of these new SB builds, then they get an AMD build. Nothing wrong with that. Not everyone has a Ferrari in their garage.

Hmm ok, im going with te 2500k Because of performence. Heres my build now. One question, as games progress, will i see a hit in performence at 8x mode in Crossfire (i wont be doing it for 2-4years)

Case- Lian Li Lancool Dark Armor PC-K62 http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_30_394&products_id=12171 BOUGHT

    DVDrive- Lite-On IHAS524 24x DVDRW Super AllWrite http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=658_667&products_id=15136 BOUGHT

Hardrive- Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB WD1002FAEX. http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=210_344&products_id=13660 BOUGHT

Motherboards- I'm unsure, which will performce/good for money? Im leaning towards the gigabyte for the price and looks.

    ASUS P8P67 PRO Motherboard. http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_711_1183&products_id=16418

    Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD4 Motherboard. http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_711_1183&products_id=16387

    CPU- Intel I5 2500k. http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=16531

RAM- Unsure, but these look good for the price. G.Skill Ripjaws XL F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL (2x4GB) DDR3 http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=16510

    GPU- XFX Radeon HD6950 2GB. http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193_1179&products_id=16313

And finaly, the power supply. XFX 850W Black Edition http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15_979&products_id=13029

So is this all good, and will game with what i have in mind ok? So games like crysis series, Metro2033, Civ, Call of duty, Borderlands Battlefield bad company 2 are some of the more demanding games i play, lol i do play old games like fallout 1 still though XD.
  14. Build looks good to me.
The CF 8x 8x hit has been tested with HD5870 and there is very little loss about 2% http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/HD_5870_PCI-Express_Scaling/25.html
On the motherboard you might want to read this to help your decision http://www.anandtech.com/show/4130/the-battle-of-the-p67-boards-asus-vs-gigabyte-at-190/11

Tough choices. I wont be over clocking for at lease 2 years, reason being is i dont like too, and i will do it to get some extra frames. So BIOS issues mite be fixed by then. Mite wait for a second opinion on someone before i become dead set on the ASUS. Though i have heard good things of ASUS, but the same goes for Gigabyte :??:
  16. Ive gone over my parts, and i've decided to ditch the 6950, and decided to go with the GTX570.LoL, so any help would be appericated on the replacement.
Whats a good brand, in a order please.
    Inno3d
    Gigabyte
    Gainward
    Galaxy

Currently only the Inno3D and Gigabyte models are in stock
  17. I have heard good things about gigabyte and gainward and know inno3d has been around for years, not so sure about galaxy.

  18. So i've got my parts! Yay. I shall post if i need any more help. :bounce:

My work is done here... I just helped save a noob from going AMD during Intel's golden age.
At least I hope I did...
  21. Yeah I almost went budget with AMD a few days ago but thought better of it and went Intel - the AMD 955 was outperformed by the old i5 (though not notably in games) the Sandy Bridge is even better. Also, I play MMOs which tend to be CPU intensive so Intel was a have to choice
  22. Yeah thank you all guys, AMD is a good brand, but sadly doesn't keep up with me. Thank you all again for being a great help. I shall post again if I need more help
EDIT: Would it be safe if i put these compnents in my case? I know it sounds dumb, but what i mean, is i wont be getting all the parts (CPU, RAM ect) for awhile (couple months) nothing would happen to the parts if i opened them?
