Am I right in thinking the 9800GTX+ only has one power port to plug in?

What make is your 500W powersupply and what other components do you have installed?

What is your PSU? brand? model? how old?
And yes, 9800GTX+ need one 6pin power connector from PSU...

Make and Model are VERY important. My buddy has an Antec Earthwatt 500w running a PhenomII x2 and an 8800GTX (2 6pin) and it runs just fine. However, an OEM or lowend PSU would never in a million years cut it.

Ya i guess my power supply is ***. Its Aopen 500w with 1 6 pin connecter.

"when i start up and go into windows it tells me my graphics card performance has been decreased due to the fact insufficient power" I have never seen this message.....has anyone else?? Can you please confirm the EXACT phrase that windows displays about your graphics performance. This does not sound right at all. Have you installed the graphics card driver?

Do you have a model number? If it has one 6pin that is a much better indication that it is intended to run an expansion video card.

I thought the 9800GTX+ requires 2 6 pins? If you have one you could use a 4 pin molex to 6 pin adapter. I believe the minumum requirements are 450w w/ 24A combined on the 12V rails. What is your 12V rating?

I suggest getting a 2x 4pin molex to x1 6pin adapter. They come free with some XFX and ZOTAC cards.. not sure if they're given out with other makes. I've had graphics cards in the past (namely 8600GTS) that couldn't use the PSU 6pin, but had to use one of these adapters. I'm pretty sure that would solve your problem.

Ahh unlucky. Though as annoying as it is when something like your PSU fails, it's the perfect excuse to get a really tip-top one ;) .

Lets hope that it didn't kill the rest of the system. I am always wondering why people get to be so cheap after making other upgrades or building machines. Antec is a good brand and got two units from them.
