5000USD hardcore gaming build (future proof too) for a friend, critic? My friend has asked me to build this for him and I said I would, also to find the parts. Already got monitor, mouse, keyboard, optical drive and all peripherals. Just needs the computer and OS.

If he wants to spend $5000, he should wait for the high end s2011 i7's.

Your gonna need to hit 5ghz with your cpu to utilize 2- gtx580.

I agree with the other comments. The current high end market is populated by chipsets and sockets that soon will be on their way out.

Waiting for 2011, which should be here early next year is certainly the best option in this case, but only if you have to spend the full $5000, surely your friend would be happy with a more than capable gaming rig (ie sandy bridge based) that comes with plenty of change.

Since we're wasting money, get a bigger SSD! Might as well get one big enough for all his games and stuff to go on. At least a 256GB C300, or a third gen if you can wait a few weeks.
