Hi guys,
Now that sandy bridge is out i am thinking of finally getting an upgrade to my 3 year old PC.
Here are my old specs:

CPU intel E8400 @ 3.6
Mobo BFG 680i Sli Mobo
Ram 4 GIG 800mhz
Vga ATI 4870x2
HDD 500GB Sata 2 7200rpm 32MB Buffer
PSU Corsair 650W TX Series
Case Coolermaster Elite

I was wondering if i can keep some parts of my PC and get some new ones in order to save some money.
I am looking to get Intel i5 2500k and a compatible mobo and ram. My goal is to achieve atleast 75% performance gain from my current setup.
What do you guys suggest that i should hold on to from my current setup and what new parts should i get.
My budget is something around £400. But it can be extended by selling my existing PC parts.

Feel free to post your opinion.
cheers :)

Best bet atm imo,
sell your 4870's and grab a single 6950 or a nvid 580, that will go fine into your new build when you get round to it,
psu may also be a keeper but be prepared to buy a new one for the new build, just in case capacitor aging has weakened your existing one too much, should be fine though
other than that, plan your new build and start saving :)

ok thx Moto,
i will be getting my new setup rdy within a week so i need to know if i should ge ahead with sandy bridge or not.
So if a get a 580 plus i5 2500k what else do i need to get that 75% performance boost?
Do i need a new HDD (no SSD as i think they are waste of money) and what about ram, how much do you think is going to be enough and what speed ?
Any other suggestion will be appreciated.
cheers

tell us how old current components are?

the 4870 should be able to sell for £150 on ebay or something similiar,
the power supply is fine in my opinion as corsair is pretty much the best.
Hard drive at 7200RPM is still standard so keep that.

Budget for a GPU, CPU, MOBO, RAM is now about £550

I5 2500K is around £170 in GB
4GB of corsair is around £45, 8GB (2X4GB) Mushkin is £80---------Both DDR3 @ 1600MHZ
GPU: 5870 Or a 6870 in my opinion. £185
Asus P8P67 LE Socket 1155. £115

Total= £550 with 8GB ram, or £500 with 4GB

You may want to get 4GB now, and with the extra £50 Buy a 3Rd party cpu cooler if you are buying the K version you will be overclocking with it i guess? if not save some money and go for the standard

ok,
around 3 years old...
just a few questions..
is it worth getting a sata 3 HDD as my current one is sata 2 ?
i will be OCing in the future so i will be getting a K version ans also the difference between the normal and K version is only 15 pounds.
i am going to stick with 4BG ram for now and upgrade in the future. btw what ram speed were you talking about ?
cheers
