Ive bought corsair cx400w and it shuts down after 15 minutes of use, could this be from overheating? The old psu is working fine but is too loud.

Temps:
CPU E7300 2.6GHz :Core1:36C Core2:40C on idle
MB Asus P5B :40C
Asus 9600gt :44C
Two Hard drives: 36C

Ive connected the psu outside of the case and it was working fine for 1 hour before I turned it off.
Also i have tried the paper clip test and it didnt turn on, only made one spin on both fans(psu fan and case fan)

CX400 or CX430? CX400 has been discontinued, so if that's what you have it may be have been used or refurbished, and so may have damage. Though it may just be NOS.

Yeah Corsair dropped the ball with that one. Newegg pulled it because it got 2 eggs and numerous bad reviews. The 430 is better but I would stay far away from the cx line. And I love corsair psus and running an hx 850 right now so this is not to be negetive.

...i think you dropped the ball on your research

the 430 is a CX, the 400 was the VX

the CX430 is still on newegg (with 4 stars), selling very well, well reviewed on jonnyguru & hardware secrets

the VX400 was even better but discontinued.

The psu is CX400W, can the psu fail the paper clip test but not be faulty?
