Hey guys, ive been on the market to upgrade my GTX 275 to get ready for BF3 and Crysis 2 and to just make BC2 look much better and smoother. ive got my budget around 300$ (+or- $50) and im between waiting for the GTX 570 which is supposed to be really good and close to the GTX 480 or go ahead and get a GTX 470 which is decent or just get an HD 6870 which is really good for the price. im afraid to get AMD since i dislike AMD drivers ALOT and most of the games i play dislike them more than nvidia. So anyways idk really, my deadline is around early December due to xmas and id rather not get old technology (GTX 470) and i want it to last for a LONG LONG time. IMO the GTX 570 might be around 300$-350$ but should last me well into 2-3 years and maby a future sli =D. Dont worry about the rest of my system, i got a corsair 850W PSU and my mobo and cpu is more than enough for the card. Thx in advance guys!

1) The GTX470 is only a one tier jump on tom's heirarchy list over the GTX275. You might be a bit disappointed if you do not get significant improvement.
2) GTX480 cards are selling cheaply on ebay now. Around the $300 mark.
3) It is unknown what the price and performance of the GTX570 will be, and when it might launch.
4) If you do buy a new card, look for a EVGA unit. The 90 day step up program will give you options.
5) Your GTX275 will sell for something, perhaps $100-$125. Is a GTX580 out of the question?

The GTX570 is slated to release sometime around or on December 8th and retail between $349-$399. I would make a good guess that it will be listed for just over $399 in the low $400 mark. Probably $100 less than what the GTX580's are going for. It is just my guess from watching video card process from over the years.

The GTX570 will have the same number of cores as the GTX480 but on the GF110 GPU like the GTX580.

The GTX570/580 are really just a refined version of the 470/480 with higher clocks. If you one of these now you are really not loosing anything as they are both Fermi's. They will just run a bit hotter and use more power. The GTX470 is a crazy deal right now. I saw an ASUS on newegg for $209 after $20 rebate. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

The GTX480 is still pretty expensive and not worth getting in my opinion with the GTX570 to basically replace it in a few weeks. My prediction is the 480 will basically all but dissapear as the 570 will be going for what the lowest priced 480s are at now. The 470 will still stick around as they are still a really good deal at a LOW price.

I agree with your AMD driver comment. I sold my 5970 to sorta down/upgrade to a gtx580. Sure it gets lower frames in most games, but really they are so high it doesn't matter at my res. What I DO LOVE, absolutely LOVE, is with the 580 i can run bad company 2 at 32xCSAA and 16xAF, it looks very smooth and clean. The ATI card would only run at 8x AA.

well yes the GTX 580 is WAY WAY over budget and the GTX 480 on ebay is not my taste since i dont want a really hot card in my system (my room heats up rly quick). i wasnt looking for a significant increase that much lol maby 15-25 fps more in every game. my plan down the road is to get a GTX 570 and when i need more power sli em. but still not sure =/

That price estimate is a requires a great thank you lol i had no idea where the price would be. As it is right now, it it comes out around $400 ill ask my parents if i can refund them like 50$-100$ w/ my xmas money from my grandparents and such. And thanks for the release date estimate, where did you decide on dec 8 just curious.

^I always try to get the most modern model out. the GTX 470 is a great deal at close to $200, but a 570 will consume less power and have higher OC abilities. When you go to sell it, it will also have a higher resell value. I usually go through a video card a year, selling my last on eBay. Although, this time around I am hoping to keep my gtx 580 more than a year. With stock cooling and no voltage tweaks I was able to set my clocks to 850gpu and 2100mem no problem. I would imagine the 570 could oc very well if not better since it will have less cores active.

I saw a 5870 for $250 after a $30 MIR. You might want to consider that as well. About the same price as that GTX470.

Assuming they disable one cluster, it would perform just like an OC'd GTX480.

Probably because of the limited amount of ram per GPU. You need more then a gig of ram if you want to do 32xAA.
