This morning, my PC refused to turn on. The PC would turn on for 5 minutes and then would shut down. Interestingly, after this happened, however, the same thing happens when I reset the switch on my power supply, and I don't even press the button on the case. So, it seems like the button on the case is somehow behing held pressed.

FYI my PSU is fine since I tested it with a multimeter. My case is about 9 years old.

You can verify the integrity of the 'Start' switch by opening the case, locating the 'Power' header pins on the motherboard and unplugging them (2). Leave them unplugged. Then start the computer by carefully touching these 2 header pins by using a flat screwdriver.

If the computer starts and runs fine per your expectations, then the 'Start' switch is bad. Constant use over 9 years may have something to do with it.

You should also look into mechanically interchanging the 'Start' and the 'Reset' switch, if getting replacement parts becomes a problem.

Should he touch them simutaneously or one at a time?

Touch both simultaneously momentarily, to close the electrical circuit. ON. (That's what the Start switch does).

FYI, I got my new case, and it works perfectly. Definitely the problem was the case switch.

Yes, 9 years is pretty good life for the switch that used a lot!
