Hp mini netbook media test failure

Hello,
Just got a new mini netbook. It worked fine but then said it needed to check disc. I let it run and then it went to black screen with a movable cursor. Now it won't do ANYTHING. I pressed escape for startup menu and F12 for network boot. It says "media test failure. check cable". Help?

You just got it, now just return it and get another one. It sounds like the drive has gone offline for one reason or another.
