ok guys, although i am fairly well versed in terms of components, this is my first build completely on my own. I'm looking for opinions on what I could perhaps pair better, if I could meet my goals better, cheaper, etc., etc.

My goals as far has been such: to make a mid tier build geared towards gaming, and 2d/3d graphic design with lasting performance to reduce the actual NEED to upgrade for years to come. Of course with that being said, i would like to have maximum performance for the cost. I expect my budget to be around 1k-1.5k.

This is what I've gotten so far:

Cooler Master Haf X - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119225&cm_re=coolermaster_haf_x-_-11-119-225-_-Productv
**** I wanted max room, max airflow, and usb 3.0 and esata ports for the future. plus, i hate plastic. steel all the way lol

thinking on two motherboards: EVGA 141-GT-E770-A1 and Asus rampage III. links:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131642
****my main reasoning picking those are: 1. they look awesome. im sick of one tone grey boards. 2. expandability 3. high speed ram (even though the evga is only 1600 mhz) 4. I heard evga has a lifetime guarantee

Intel Core i7-950 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115211
****no comments.

Heatsink: Noctua NH-D14 or Thermalright ultra rev. c
**** I'm worried about having space for either of these but i hear they have maximum cooling for the cost.

I haven't chosen ram yet, and the rest won't be much to fuss over lol.

Anyway, what are your thoughts?

News Flash! Your build is already out of date....its like so 2010. :p And btw who buys a $350 mobo and calls their build "mid tier" ? Technology moved over to these new Sandy Bridge 1155's. Just a few cool things about these ...they don't need low timing, high priced RAM to get a 5.0ghz+ o/c seeing how the RAM means zero in regards to o/c with these SB, they run cool...like real cool, and you can get a killer o/c with a $125 mobo. The days of having to sell the farm to get a decent gaming rig (with the exception of the over priced vid cards) are over with...at least for now.
