Building a system for a buddy his list looks pretty fair he also might drop the dual 6850 for a single 560 GTX figured I would get some input before I gave him the nod to fire off the purchase (the Powersupply IMHO is a bit small)

I would throw in the extra few bucks to get the AMD 955, not the 945. The chip is an easy overclocker and is worth the extra $15-20.

I'm surprised the Antec Neo is that expensive. I wouldn't recommend that PSU for that sort of rig. The Antec TP750 should do the trick nicely, as it is rated for 750W of continuous power output, and it's about the same price.

I'd scrap either the whole Crossfire idea or the SSD to afford the i5-2500K. Really, Crossfire isn't a good idea to start out with a new build, as it's overly expensive and leaves no upgrade path. SSDs are also overpriced right now, and don't do that much for you. Leave out either one to get a massive performance boost from the CPU.

Here's what I'd recommend for $1,100:

CPU: i5-2500K $225
Mobo: ASRock P67 Extreme4 $153 or Asus P8P67 Pro $185
GPU: HD 6950 $260 after rebate

The rest is stuff I'd change regardless of if you go with the i5 or not:
CPU: X4 955. No exception here.
Mobo (AMD): ASRock 870 Extreme3 $90. That M4A79T is an older board on an old chipset. I'd avoid it if you insist on going with AMD.
RAM: G.Skill 2x2 GB 1600 mhz CAS Latency 9 $48. Cheaper.
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1 TB $60. Faster and more reliable.
Case: I'd rather have the HAF 922 for $10 more (counting shipping)
PSU: Antec Earthwatts 750W $80

I don't know where that leaves you with the other parts you need, but I'm sure it's under budget. If you're significantly under, check out the GTX 580 or dual GTX 460s.

this is in the ball park and meets his price point and should play anything he wants to play (40 bucks more he can get a ATI 6950 but the 560 in the test I saw is close enough.

If the 560 overclocks anything like the 460 did, it will blow the 6950 out of the water, especially SLIed (in the future).

I miss my 460s, since I can't OC my 470s...to much heat :(
