Hi, so I finally got the last of the parts for my system, and I'm going to be putting this baby together as soon as I get out of work in a few hours. I'm very excited, but also nervous that I'm going to screw it all up! I've swapped out vid cards, replaced ram, even replaced a psu before....but never built one from the ground up. Does anyone have any suggestions/tips/warnings for a newbie? Any links to good guides and or videos would very very much appreciated!

My parts are as follows:

AMD Phenom XII quad-core 3.4

8 GB Mushkin Enhanced Silverline DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)

Samsung Spinpoint 500mb HD

ASRock 870 EXTREME3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

Rosewill Challenger Case

Nvidia Geforce 9600GT (this is soon to be upgraded)

Windows 7 Premium 64

Antec 650 watt psu

How likely is it that something will go wrong? Is it highly likely that I will have a bad part?

Thanks in advance!

Each build is different. That's where you motherboard manual comes in handy. It'll take you step by step in assembling most of your hardware.

You might save yourself some time and aggravation, if you connect your CPU/HSF, PSU, and power switch before mounting your motherboard in the case. Try to power on with just those items, and see if the system POSTs (you should hear the normal system beep). If you do, continue adding hardware.
