I presently have an I-7 950 Processor, Asus P6X58D-E motherboard, EVGA 580 3 gb video card, and 3X2gb mushkin redline memory sticks. I'm looking for a suggestion for a high speed ram of atleast 8gb for my system. Any fast gaming memory suggestions would be appreciated.

if not overclocking the cpu then 2000mhz ram would be pointless

the multipliers work like

say you can overclock to 4ghz

bclk 200mhz x cpu multiplier of 20 (turbo off) =4000mhz

ram is then set at 200mhz also as its the base clock--ram multiplier of 8 =1600mhz ram

ram multiplier of 10 would be 200mhz bclk x 10 =2000mhz ram

the ram multiplier is user selectable

if not overclocking the default bclk is 133mhz x the default cpu multiplier of 20 (turbo off) =cpu speed 2.66ghz

that gives ram speed of 133mhz x 12 (highest ram multiplier available) = 1600mhz of ram

is that any clearer?
are you overclocking the cpu?

as on that i7 overclocking the cpu also overclocks the ram

i have just upgraded my i7-920 to sandybridge and i had 6gb of 2000mhz before switching to 12gb of 1600mhz on my i7

personally i found the 1600mhz was faster because i could drop the latencies to 7-7-7

its where the overclocking comes in as your ram speed is the ram multiplier x bclk--so to run at 2000mhz you need a bclk of 200mhz x 10 ram multiplier

so depending on your bclk you may not be able to run 2000mhz anyway even if the modules are rated for it

well theres nothing wrong with the make you already have--if another 6 gb of that is cheaper than 3 x 4gb go that way

should be fine with all 6 slots filled on your motherboard-i was still able to get to 4ghz with 6x 2gb on my i7-920

other good makes if you do want 3 x 4gb are corsair - patriot--geil--gskill

though it already seems harder to get triple channel sets most are dual or quad to fit sandybridge
