Hello,

I'm moving, so I'm getting new cable internet service. My old provider just rented me a modem; the new one doesn't provide one so I need to purchase a modem.

I will only have one desktop computer on it. I can do either wireless or wired. A firewall would be nice.

Any suggestions?

depends on which models your isp requires but i would say linksys is always a safe bet...

Just get the linksys cablemodem, router, switch combo unit.

Personally, I'm fond of splitting up my equipment. Terayon modems are good, if you can find one, otherwise Motorola Surfboards are reliable. For the router, I'd go with SMC. I don't like Netgear or Linksys at all, given my many many experiences with them. D-Link is another good alternative if SMC isn't available.
