How to tell if your ink cartridge needs filling

Hello,

I have an HP 6000 officejet printer and would like to know how I can tell when the cartridge needs replacement.
There used to be some kind of chart to measure ink levels?

I don't know the answer to your question, but I have something relevant to add.

Few weeks ago I overheard my friends talking about some gadget that forces your printer to print even after it says you need to replace/refill the cartridge.

Next time I saw that friend I asked him about it and he said it definitely works. He actually managed to print additional 60+ pages of text after his printer told him that cartridge is empty!

When text becomes unreadable (or hard to see) - and or colors become ugly or not uniform - I would say thats when it's time to replace the cartridge.

HP have a software that can tell the ink of your cartridge. It come with the driver you install, usually the full package. I think most printer can tell with some light on the printer. (Like my printer, it shows exclamation point)
