Any one know when will the core 2 duo be unable to process updated software...I was told that it could be 2 years from now. I just do not want to invest money in a laptop that will not be able to utilize for school/college; however, I am digging deep for the cost to pay for a laptop computer for school. Also, I hear apple is the way to go, but has anyone experienced an issue with programs for school not able to download due to compatibility?

The compatibility issue is more with the OS as compared to hardware.. The C2D platform is decent enough for school/college work provided you are not into high end CAD or such software (in which case getting a notebook based on a core i CPU will fetch you better results).. Apple notebooks are cool but overpriced.. So if you are not much of a showy guy, you can get better hardware for the price of a macbook..

There is no software that cannot be processed. In other words most processes are performed arithmetically their is no supporting it or not.Is it capable or not is more of a better question because computers only have two answers 1 and 0.

A C2D won't be going unsupported for some time yet, but its more or less an obsolete platform, as of a year or two ago.

It will be a very long before a CPU actually become useless due to lack of compatible software.

As an example Windows 7 can be installed on a laptop with a Pentium M CPU from 2002 / 2003 and it works fine.
