Laptop CPU upgrade question, t9900 Gateway 7805u

I have a Gateway FX p7805u Laptop and just bought a intel t9900, which is on the way. I know my way around a computer but it has been forever since I did much upgrading. I looked up and feel confident with the process of installing the new CPU but after installing it I am a little vague.

Do I just boot and check the bios to make sure it is realized the change? Some have spoken about under volting the cpu, is this something I need to do? Any help would appreciated.

  1. Here are some things to consider:

The CPU in the laptop is Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P8400 -
    The TDP is 25 Watts

The new CPU that you are planning to install is Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T9900 -
    The TDP is 35 Watts.

Come up with a plan to deal with the additional heat produced.
The new CPU may work well at the existing voltage setting. If not, you will have to set the optimum voltage in the BIOS (hope your BIOS will let you change voltages).
