Just built my first pc.. turns on, but nothing happens

Here are the specs of my machine:

ASUS P8P67 Pro Intel P67 Motherboard
Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40 GHz Quad-Core Unlocked
EVGA GeForce GTS 450 (Fermi) FPB 1GB GDDR5 PCIe
Seagate Barracuda 1TB Low Power Hard Drive
Sony Optiarc AD-7260S-0B 24x DVDRW Drive
Cooler Master RC-932-KKA3-GP Case and 700W PSU
Patriot Viper Xtreme Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 RAM

I'm upgrading the evga card asap...

So this is what happens:

I turn it on, it powers up and instantly turns off- and then turns back on. At this point it stays on, but nothing happens on screen. The fans are on, cooler running, the mobo is lit up (two leds are lit, CPU and Power), the dvd tray works, etc... My only thought is that the ram i installed is somehow installed incorrectly (going to take one out and move it over one slot- the slots are A1 A2 B1 B2, and right now i have the sticks right next to eachother in the A1 A2 config.. gonna try A1 B1 (the colors match on the mobo for the card slots, blue and black alternating b/t A1 A2 B1 B2 so maybe you should have them in the same colored slot?)

More about just built turns happens
  1. that RAM config test did not work... this is very puzzling.
  2. Does it give a series of beeps after you turn it on?
  3. no beeps at all, it does not even intiate POST tests.

but the mobo does light up and everything else powers up too.. the hdd spools up, etc..
  4. Okay, 1: make sure everything is connected properly 2: see if it POST's with just one stick of RAM, try each one separately
  5. everything seems to be plugged in correctly (i read all manuals, my roomie who has built before checked everything), and i tried the RAM test with both, each one, one at a time..

?? I'm wondering since the CPU led light is on, on the mobo that could indicate a bad proc? or mobo?
  6. Alright then, do you possibly have another graphics card that you could put in there?
  7. it's booting up! i forgot to plug in the eatx12v up on top of the mobo! woot my first build boots up! THANKS KILO
  8. Glad I could help! Enjoy your PC! :)
  9. Always read the MoBo Manual and follow the steps therein....this would avoid missing cable connections (page 2-25)and RAM in wrong slots (page 2-5).
  10. well, i'm on my new pc right now.. hehehe ITS AWESOME! :pt1cable:
