G31 motherboard starts up and then goes blank

Hello
I have a G31 motherboard,it starts up, beeps comes on and starts loading windows, I get as far as the desktop and the screen goes blank but the machine stays on, i reboot, go into cmos and after a few secs the screen goes black again but it shows the monitor light still green and the cpu fan still running,and Ideas

If you're running an older version of windows, maybe your video resolution is messed up due to a driver problem or monitor limitation. Windows 7 will automatically adjust the resolution everytime you boot up even if the video driver is dumped due to a change. But older versions of windows may not. You may have a video card that is not quite seated all the way into the slot.
