I have an HP Omnibook 800CS that work all these years but recently
exhibited hard disk problems ... bad sectors.

Would the notebook work with the current crop of 2.5" drives? I
understand that the bios may not be able to utilize all the capacity of
the newer drives but I'd be happy enough if the notebook could at least
use partial capacity of the drive (possibly 4gb max?). All i need is to
have a reliable hard disk again.

Thanks in advance for any reply.

Yes, almost (but not absolutely) certainly.
