i am not planning to overclock. but is the i5 2500k dual core? quad core? and is it better then i7 950 and i7 870? also im not planning to use sli\crossfire i just want the best performance in games. thanks for the reply

The Intel® Core™ I5 2500K is a quad core processor and right now it is about the best processor on the market in price vs. performance and is about the best processor for gaming you can get. Also the motherboard that you will pick up for the Intel Core I5 2500K most likely should cost less than the X58 board that you would need for the Intel Core I7 950. Between the savings on a P67 series board (the chipset on the board you are going to want) and then Intel Core I5 2500K will make a nice down payment for a SSD. You can take a look at something like the Intel SSD 320 80GB as a boot drive and see some big improvement on the boot times and access times on any program located on the drive.
