Hello,

I'm currently trying to build a computer to upgrade from i7 930 and 5870 and here's what I have so far...

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=16570826

I'm trying to find a different motherboard because I'd like to leave some room in the budget for a decent ssd and as of right now my budget is around $1500 to $1600.

So far this is the one that's somewhat high on the list...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131693&cm_re=asus_1155-_-13-131-693-_-Product

I will primarily use my computer for gaming, f@h and watching movies. I do plan on overclocking since I hear that the 2600 series overclocks pretty high pretty easily.

Anyway, I would really appreciate any advice to lower my current price to fit in at least a 100GB SSD (Win 7 + Black Ops)

Thanks,
Jer

Solution
If you don't want to upgrade the GPU the smartest area to spend money would probably be storage, new SSDs are coming soon and I would purchase a 128gb or 256gb one for games+OS.

Or you could buy another monitor and GPU

I currently don't have my 930 overclocked just because I only have stock fan and I'm seeing around 56 degrees at full load.

Are you saying that I should stick with my 1366 socket? I've just heard great things about the new generation of i7s.

What about upgrading to a 970? I just don't want to get left behind when it comes to terms of processor speed since all of those newer sandy bridge processors are top of the list in benchmarks.

I do see how it'd be a better idea to wait to upgrade to 2011 socket compared to going to 1155.

I agree. The i7 (1366) are very good cpus. A 4ghz overclock should be easy to reach with a good cooler.

It isn't a good idea to upgrade CPU+mobo yet I would wait for Ivy Bridge (x68).

@OP what are all the specs of your current system?

You wouldn't go with 970? I just will have $700 burning a hole in my pocket sometime in the near future and I'd like to have an upgrade that would make a big difference and I've been seeing 970s go for around $500 on ebay. My current set up can easily play Metro 2033 and Crysis with max settings at 1920 x 1200 so that's why I'm kinda leaning against the xfire setup.

I was thinking monitor but then I'd need a new desk lol. I currently have a 28 inch but I am most likely going to go with what you're suggesting, new heatsink and ssd. Maybe a nice mouse and keyboard too :)

Thank you for your advice, I was most likely going to go with 1155 but I'm glad you changed my mine.

The DF-85 is the new version of the 1200 ... in the 1200, it takes 8-10 minutes to remove the air inlet filters nd replace them. In the DF-85, it's about 8 seconds. If ya go with the 590, you'll need the CP-1000 .... it also comes in a combo with the DF-85

If ya set on the 1200

save $40 and buy the combo
