How to make windows think it works?

So I'm trying to repair my old 9800gt. I don't really care whether it's dead or alive, but I know a lot of people who could make good use of it and besides who doesn't like repairing stuff?

So It started artifecating once and I replaced it, but now I want to try underclocking it to see if I can solve the problem. Now windows 7 came allong and shut it down claiming it doesn't function properly:

This is the error I get in the device manager:

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

So for me to people to do anything with it I need to make sure windows thinks it's normal so I can actually use stuff like msi afterburner with it.

Anybody know how I can pull this of?

I tried ubuntu but apperently afterburner isn't an executable proggram or something like that.

I know there are some XP bootable softwares, that are for either CD, or usb pendrives. Although I have never tried one and I think they have to be bought, explore the option if none can give you an answer.
