I know Black Friday is done and over, but will Newegg have anymore sales? I am going to buy a hd6850 before Christmas and was wondering if the prices will lower. Will they?

More about : newegg anymore sales

They have sales now and then, however the largest price drops are usually initiated by the chip manufacturers (AMD and NVidia) who may not be in any rush to fire up their price war again. However, if the 69xx has a strong release, some price shifts down are possible I suppose.

They will likely have various sales every day until Christmas. Whether the part that you want will be on sale or not is a crapshoot, and you would have to watch and wait.

When will the 69xx release? Before Christmas?

That's the plan. It is already late for holiday sales, but last I heard was within a few weeks. The dual GPU card is delayed to 2011.

Yeah, newegg is always having sales. The question is will they have one on what you are looking for and that is questionable. The prices on that card have gone up since launch and no one knows when they will go back down. At current pricing you are probably better off looking for a good deal on a GTX 460 1gb to be honest.

There is a review of the MSI Hawk GTX 460 on the Tom's Hardware main page

Should I order the hd6850 now or later? I was thinking later because maybe the prices would go down.

Here's what I do- order it when I want it and can't wait any longer, then ignore all related advertisements for 6 months so I don't get unhappy when I find it for less later on. Prices might go up, prices might go down, nobody that really knows is going to tell us so we have to take our best shot and live with it. If you buy it now and it is cheaper next month, well at least you got to use it for a month when you wanted it.

Actually if buying now I'd go for the 5850 instead of the 6850 --- performance between the 6850 and 6870 and the same or better price than the 6850 due to the sales on them currently ! (since the 68xx are more the 57xx replacements while the 58xx will be replaced by the 69xx series)

Ie. the XFX 5850 for $190 after MIR

I had the same dilemma, so I just ordered it lol. Got a 6850, should be here in a few days.

NewEgg is nice in that they honor their discounts so long as you purchased the item very close to the discount date. For example, say you buy this week, then next week the same product has 10% off. You can email them and they will credit you the 10% (so $20 for a 6850). But don't count on this if you purchased it a long time before a discount.

I was hoping the prices would drop but gave up. If they drop by 25%, I'll be sad though.

It is eventual that the price will lower at some point.
What you are doing is regarding the value standpoint of a product while you have to incorporate the length of lifetime this product will last you for.
If you can afford it and envision this card to last you for X amount of time you find appropriate for the price then go for it.
Otherwise what will happen is, the manufacturer will come up with another mroe brillant card which means the card you look at will be lower in price but the amunt of time you will have the lower product will continue to decrease; therefore cost effectiveness is a good thing to look at but not necessarily the only solution to look at

I think I am going to go with the SAPPHIRE HD6850 TOXIC because is run cool in quite. My case is not a good case to run hot GPUs.

Maybe wait till new 69xx series cards come out?
Wouldn't the prices for the 58xx series drop since they would then have 2 new line of cards(68xx/69xx)
5850/5870 is still better than a 6850.
I'm sure the prices will go up around or after christmas as their is already a short of supply and demand for the 68xx series(why the prices keep going up)

Thanks, I just ordered the SAPPHIRE hd6850 TOXIC version. I am happy I did it now instead of later when it might have been out of stock.
