Since every Sandy Bridge CPU and motherboard has been recalled and taken off sites, What should I do now?

I was planning on buying my computer today but I noticed things were missing in my cart, and then I found that SB has been recalled -_-

I need this new computer in early February due to this dying, very old laptop that can't run games on very high settings. Do you think I should go back to a Phenom II x4 build?

My new ideas..:

Need some suggestions for the motherboard. Ever since SB I forgot about AMD and their motherboards lol.

-----

Also, how will the 965 perform while recording games at very high/max settings while recording with fraps? I play MMOs and FPS.

Thanks

Definitely wait for at least Bulldozer because the old AMD phenom ii aren't that great compared to the new SB and soon IB will come and hopefully blow SB out of the water and fix any problems. It isn't ideal to build in this time period.

No thank you for spending the time to put together such a good reference, the only complaint I have is the case in the high-end build I think any build under $2000 doesn't need anything more than the HAF 922 it is versatile and heavily expandable and additional fans can be added for max cooling.

Haha, Well I appreciate the support. And I do see your reasoning Joel. But meh, I'm more of an aesthetics guy. Personally I think the Phantom is a great case actually for its price. 5 fan controller, with pretty good build quality, future expansion capable and a pretty low price. Oh and I can't forget the interesting look. Haha.

My personal dream case is the 800D, but as of now, the HAF X is my planned next case. Gots them wheels on the bottom and USB 3 front panel ports.

I'm keeping my HAF 922 for x68 upgrade, if i had endless money I would go for the HAF X but alas I don't :( I don't dream huge because I wouldn't find use for anything more than the X since I don't water cool or anything like that. I'll wait till I have a 100K job and am financially secure to start anything ridiculous.

Haha this is true, I wish I had a job at that. I'd re-use my 902 for my P67/Z67/AM3+ (we'll see in 1-2Q) but I need to keep my current PC tidy for my mother, she doesn't have one. And although mine would be a huge amount of PC power for her, whatever, as long as it doesn't go to waste. I hate selling anything because I know the value has just gone down.

But yeah, I wish I had a job. Even a weekend job (Damn student label, no one hires students nowadays). I'd be able to get my dream computer by the time Vertex 3's and SB/BDs are released :D But... I wont.

My Build is similar to $600 build.

MTHBD: ASUS M4A79XTD EVO
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 2.8GHz
Cooler: COOLMASTER Hyper 212+
MEM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
VIDEO: ASUS EAH6850 DirectCU/2DIS/1GD5 Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5
- It's temporarily out of stock. ETA 1/31/11 - I may hold out for 2 weeks hoping the prices will come down by then. And I can get something better.
HDD: SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB ($55)

OPTICAL:: Lite-On 24X DVD/Writer iHAS424-98 Lightscribe

POWER: ANTEC EA 650 Watt PS
CASE: ANTEC 300 Illusion
Came to 788.25 with Shipping and Taxes - Exlcuding Rebates (70.00 in rebates)
(MTHBD, HD and Cooler + Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound Bought from Amazon)
Haven't purchased the Graphics Card, it's out of stock until 1/31/11. The price is included in the total, could be cheaper if the price comes down.

I went with the Asus M4A79XTD EVO over the ASRock 870 Extreme 3 because I liked the features and with Bulldozer coming out. I was planning on upgrading again at this time next year. Hopefully I will only have to upgrade my mthbd and not CPU.

I say just wait for bulldozer if you can. If you need something now then AMD is fine, but you may as well go with a cheaper board. You can't SLI on that board after all. If you're looking at 1080p then you may want to consider getting two 6870s. You could also consider stepping up to an LGA 1366 setup even though it will be replaced soon -_-

Hi shinobi!

I checked out your site and I must say way to keep on top of updating it. I noticed you said go with an intel i5 core CPU because of the recall on SB mobos.

What motherboard would you suggest with the i5-750 or i5-760 that's around $120? I don't need to overclock or run SLi.

I looked up some benchmarks and saw the i5 beating all the quad core Phenom IIs in most synthetic and real world tests. But, I also know the 1156 socket is near its end.

EDIT: Found a GIGABYTE GA-P55-USB3 LGA 1156 Intel P55 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard, how is that for gaming?
