4 pin molex

Hello,
hi what would cause a computer to only power on when mob 4 pin molex (CPU power) is not connected

  1. i thot that the cpu would have a 4 or 8 pin 12v rail.
    You could try a molex connector but isnt a very good idea.

    A short would do that. Is this a new build? (presuming you are meaning the 4pin P4 connector)
  3. The CPU does not get fed by a 4 pin molex. It wants an 4 pin ATX or 8 pin EPS connector.

    yeah the 4 pin connector in approx middle of mob same thought figured a short. research said extra power for cpu. the question was mob problem or cpu prob. rather than taking chance on new cpu gambled on mob. up an running now. investigated possible mob psu short by breadboarding an alt psu.
    noticed cpu fan connectors worn/broken ditched the cpu fan quick attah. bolt and screwed ensuring strong conduction. thinking weak fan connectors may have caused cpu overheat and auto triggered shutdown. original mob may still work.
