Should I grab 12gb of RAM for free?

Hi all, so I'm buying a new laptop that I plan to use for gaming, school, and possibly some light video editing in the future. When I was customizing, there was an option for a free upgrade from 4GB of RAM to 8GB of RAM, and another free 4GB for a total of 12GB. My question is, if it's free, should I go for it or will it actually decrease performance when gaming?

My concern is decreased performance though. I read online in a couple of places that it might actually produce lower FPS than 4-8GB.

Not true. There's no relationship between having extra ram and performance.
