This is ridicules but my friend is about to buy a new processor and he is considering buying an i7-920 over an intel i5-2500K.

Now I am just trying to help him because he things just because 7 is higher than 5 the i7 auto wins. He is a gamer like me and wants an i7 because it can do hyper threading.

Please explain to him my posing replies that the 2500K is far superior to the i7-920. He wont trust me so hopefully you can convince him before he makes a big mistake. Any proof is welcome. Verbal explanations, benchmarks, etc but not only benchmarks because he needs to be explained to with words why hyper threading isn't as great as he thinks it is.

There is no way in hell that a i7-920 at 2.66Ghz can even hope to come close to the i5-2500K even at stock speeds...

From this month's "Best Gaming CPU for the Money"

The Core i5-2500K is the obvious choice for gamers looking for the best combination of overclock-ability and gaming potential.

From Sandy Bridge's launch review, Metro 2033

The chart clearly shows the i5-2500K matching up to an i7-950. If it can match up to an i7-950, yes, it can beat an i7-920.

you give the best answer to a guy the post a benchmark to a huge gpu bottleneck lol? that bench is not very indicative to the real difference. CASE IN POINT ON THE THIRD BENCHMARK WHERE THE 1100T BEAT ALL. i call bs to that benchmark as a good indicator right there.

you friend should buy a 1100t i guess.
