Have you tried the latest BIOS and audio drivers from the company (Asrock) site?
Confirm that the Onboard HD Audio is set to Enabled and not Auto in the BIOS.

I've tried updating to the latest BIOS/audio drivers. I've checked BIOS to set onboard audio from Auto to enabled. I've checked in Windows (7) to make sure the correct device is the default sound device and configured the speaker setup. I've downloaded the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website as well (Realtek). I've even tried different speakers.

Have either of you connected the HDMI audio output to it's header on the Mobo? Though it shouldn't make a difference but still.....

Did that, still no dice. My playback devices is now showing the speakers unplugged after some toying around. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing but before it was constantly showing them plugged in even when they weren't. Now it's just the opposite.

I feel bad for kind of jacking this guy's thread but I hope I'm helping him out just as well. :p

I am currently running Windows 7. One other thing I've found out is when I enable front panel audio in the BIOS the speakers show up as being plugged in to the front panel (the case I have doesn't have any front panel ports, therefor I don't have front panel connected on the mobo). I'm at a loss :fou:

I'm running a system file check now to make sure I don't have any corrupt or missing Windows system files. I'm getting down to the nitty gritty and might just go out and buy a cheap PCI sound card

You need to check, if something else is not plugged into the Mobos FPA Header. There could be a short behind there too. Just check to be on the safe side.

Did you manage to sort this out? I am having this exact problem! It's getting very frustrating and tedious testing everything 20 times.

Thanks, Ryan.
