  1. Should have Client for Microsoft Networks, File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks, and NetBIOS installed on both machines in a home network.

Double-click the network Icon in the system tray
    Click Properties
scroll down list of installed services and protocols
You must have "Client of Microsoft Networks"
You must have "File and Printer Sharing"
You must have "NWLink NetBIOS" (NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol will be there too)

If Client for Microsoft Networks is missing,
    Click Install
    Click Client
    Click Add
    Click Client for Microsoft Networks
    Click Ok

    If NWLink NetBIOS is missing,
    Click Install
    Click Protocol
    Click Add
Click NWLink NetBIOS or it may show "NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol"
    Click Ok

If File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is missing,
    Click Install
    Click Service
    Click Add
Click Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
    Click Ok

These must exist in both computers. They also must be checked.
