Hi

I am trying to select components for a dell M15x games machine, (although it will run my small business as well). I need to decide between i5 540M(2.53ghz, 3mb cache) or a i7 740qm(1.73ghz 6mb,4c)

please help

Kind regards

Justyn

hi Robin

Thanks for the reply

i want desktop replacement and porability. I use 3D cad, run a business and play games.

I've been round the houses and now my need is growing as my current inspirion is on it's last legs for the last time.

In most cases, I doubt there will be much of a gaming difference between the CPUs unless you are running a 6970m crossfire or similar. Some games, however, will benefit from the quad core. What video chip does the notebook have?

robin, see the "paper and pencil" symbol in the bottom left of all your posts? You can use that to edit your posts instead of posting new posts with corrections each time :pt1cable:

No,
Your laptop runs 1.73 if each core is fully active. However if there is turbo boost i would consider that i7 to run around 2.7ghz at least.Intel doesnt call it i7 for nothing.
