You still here, Richard?

At the time, I thought you were suffering from delusions.

Dwarves chasing you down - riiiight.
Now I've got them too!

I just installed the current version of Tactics and those dwarves are
not only crazy, they're tedious.

They used to be shadow thieves rather than dwarves and that led
to my failure to understand what you were describing. I didn't come
out and say that I thought you were crazy, exactly, but I was thinking
it - sorry!

Dwarves make more sense than shadow thieves but this used to be
a nice tension-filled scenario for me, and now it's hack, hack, hack
and whatever. I've only played it once but ehh... I think I'll either re-
install the old version or get dungeon-b-gone.

Any Tactics players here who play the opening dungeon who enjoy
facing the dwarves more than the shadow thieves?

Yep, just started some of the quests in Alkatha. I only get about half an
hour at the end of the working day a couple of days a week to play the game
as I have to play it at work as my home machine isn't powerful enough
really. Shame really, as I don't have much else to do on the evenings as I
am a night owl and my g/f is a teacher. Not a good combination.

Wouldn't be the first time.

LOL!

They can also hurt your party pretty bad if you don't get them before their
spells go off.

I've been called worse than crazy. I can see how the version thing has
confused what I was saying, I would much rather have had dwarves with better
AI.

Where can I get the older version of tactics?

Yeah, the can. Shadow thieves IMO are a bit tougher though, as
they will switch targets and will backstab with poisoned weapons.
They're also equipped with wands (ice, fear, paralization [with a
-4 save], and a useless polymorph one.) Imoen is immune to all
the wands except for the cone of cold so I generally lead with her.

On the whole though I imagine that my old version is easier than
the current one because with it you can close doors and thus gang
up on individual members of Ilyich's group, and apparently, this is
impossible to do with the current version - I gave up on it when the
first group of dwarves spawned in on me. It fits the MO for a shadow
thief to "sneak up" on the group like that, and I enjoy the sneaky
aspects of Tactics, but splint mail wearing dwarven grunts doing it
is IMO a bad idea.

I don't know, but try asking here

http://forums.pocketplane.net/

I have it of course, and wouldn't mind sending it to you,
unless that's considered inappropriate for some reason by
the creators of it - I don't know.

however,

if it's just the crazy dwarven AI that's bugging you, unlike for me
where it's the dwarves themselves, you might be better off sticking
with the current version rather than going to the trouble of finding
an older version because it the crazy AI will proly be fixed on the
next version - not that I know anything about that, I'm just guessing.

You can ask about about that at the link too.

Good luck.

I'm hoping they didn't go for the unclosable doors like the final level
of the D'Arnise keep.

They're "magically stuck open" in the current version. Every
door I got to was, anyway, but I didn't get too far into into it.

It might still be possible to gang up on individual members of
Ilyich's crew. At the least you'll proly want to draw the target
to a point farther away from the library than the otyugh room.

It seems like this version, with the dwarves and the open doors,
is pushing hard for set battles.

I'm playing through the Tashia romance for the first time so I really
don't want to be continually surprised by the changes - I'll proly
give it a shot later.
