I have a 3piece fan assembly I removed from an old laptop cooling pad the fans themselves are 50mm(blade tip to tip) with blue LED's in each fan all 3 are hooked to a single USB cable which I can see just has a red and black wire , could I simply snip the USB end off and attach the red and black wires to a 4pin power plug to hook into my power supply? I want to use it in a case mod I am currently working on. Also if this is possible which to places on the 4pin connector would I put the red and black wires?

Solution
You can mod it directly into a molex connector, red to red, black to black, the red wire always carries 5V in a computer and black is always ground so it should work just fine.
