I3-2100 vs Phenom ii x4 965 BE

and

i3-2100 i can get for around $160-200. processor is $100 at microcenter. I would have to purchase the mobo separately.

Which one should I get?

Please do get the i3 its faster better and more upgradable compared to phenomII.

Google to see if the programs you use are multithreaded which can make use of the extra cores of the Phenom. In the benchmarks that can use those cares the AMD does score better but there no point in having them if you wont ever use them.

at could get a i5 2500k for $180... same price as the i5 2300 but would i need a p67? more expensive...

Get H61/H67 mobo - they should be cheaper than P67 mobos. and for those you don't need "k" processors, since you don't overclock.

You don't need a p67 for i5/i7. There is no need to buy P67 unless your planning on using more than 1 video card.

For $100 the i3-2100 is a steal and it only uses 65w.
