Ive been saving to build a decent gaming rig and not researching since there was no rush. Now that my laptop is destroyed... I must build ASAP. I've already acquired the Antec Twelve Hundred case, keyboard, mouse, speakers and a 1000 watt PSU. I have a 800-900(ish) total budget and live in CA so tax needs to be kept in mind. I plan on also purchasing a 32 inch TV to use as a monitor. The TV is not part of the budget but some suggestions would be very helpful. Oh, windows 7 needs to be included. Some features I would like to have would be a blue ray player, SSD drive, Intel... Whatever you'd think would be cool to include. Anyone that could help out would be much appreciate. Also im a student maybe I could get windows cheaper some how?..

Blue ray drive + SSD alone are $300. So not likely to fit both in your budget. Why do you even need a blue ray in the first place?

What res is your TV? Also, gaming on TV isn't a very good idea, especially if it isn't a 1080p TV.

You should also fill out the form in the sticky, link in my sig. That gives a much neater and easier to read presentation of your needs.

As a student you can get win 7 pro for $65 and win741.com. If you're an engineering or comp sci major, your school most likely can offer you win 7 for free.

Both AM3 and 1156 are dead end sockets since no more CPU's will be made for them. SB is currently recalled and won't be back till april, which is also supposedly about when bulldozer is coming out.

Considering your situation though, I'd say just grab a Phenom II x4 and a good GPU.

Another $76 or nothing for OS.
You could throw in a 80gb Vertex 2 for $165 w/ $15 MIR, though with the release of gen 3 SSD's right around the corner, I don't think it's the best idea. At the least, the new die shrinks will mean 1.5-2x the storage space for the same money.
