ATI 5670 and Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz with ASUS P5KPL-CM mobo

Hi,

I wanted to ask whether upgrading just my gfx card (to an ATI 5670) would be enough to improve gfx to play starcraft 2?

My current specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo 4400 2.0GHz
Mobo ASUS P5KPL-CM
2GB DDR2 Memory
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro

Is the video card compatible with my motherboard? As I have read that it is PCIe 2.1 but my mobo is PCIe 1.0 i think (16x)

So yeah its mainly for starcraft 2 and maybe command and conquer 3 or red alert 3, (hopefully this upgrade can run diablo 3 as well) and other RTS games, just hoping a gfx upgrade will improve gfx settings in the game. Is a core 2 duo 2.0GHz ok enough for the 5670?

Thanks in advance

Hi, at lower resolutions that setup would be fine for suing that game... Say for example 1440 x 900 or 1280 x 1204, if you wanted to max it out you could look at perhaps the HD 5770 instead, what power suply do you have in your computer at the moment?
  2. Hi wow thanks for the prompt reply! Sorry forgot about those.

    PSU is 400w
LCD screen 1280 x 720 (17" widescreen but im hoping to upgrade to a 21" widescreen)

I was thinking of the 5750 but even that is not in my price range and the requirements say i need at least a 450w PSU. Also, I don't even know if these cards are compatible with my motherboard?

    Cheers

  4. Its alright... close the thread. I had the wrong mobo box. I just realised my mobo is an asus p5vdc-mx LGA 775 and no PCIe x16

    Hoping to upgrade to:

    Mobo: Asus P7H55-M-USB3
    Gfx: ATI EAH5670-DI-1GD5 HD5670 1GB
    CPU: Core i5 650 3.2Ghz
    Case/Psu: 500w Ccenturion II
    Mem: 4GB DDR3 using DIMM slots (2x 2GB cards)

    Around $600AUD

    How's that looking?
