How does crime work?

Archived from groups: alt.games.vgaplanets4 (More info?)

In one game that I am playing, the Crime rate on my planets were Zero.
This turn the crime rate has rocketed upto 50 on most planets. I have
had one of my bases sabbed by another race but that is all. This is the
first turn since host 190. I am playing the UEA.

CAn anybody tell me how Crime works.

Many thanks

Crime is tied to holding contraband.

If you hold contraband you risk having crime.

To completely avoid crime stay out of the Contraband market.

Tim, what should the Robots do, then? They must gather Kierras if they
    want troops and High Guards.

And, another question. My fighter wings are getting a weird message in
    their logs:

"Wing has hyper jumped using the Golem hyper space network."

    What is this, please?

    Regards

I did a test game with host 189 which showed weird results too. Sent a
bunch of queries to Tim, no reply yet.

Thanks for the E-mail Paul, It was very informative.

Just another question, If you had a lot of contra on one world say 20K
would it effect the crime on that world only or every world within the
    empire?
The reason I ask is that I have noticed that all of my worlds have had
the crime increase by about 50 points over one turn. I'm Playing the
UEA so selling contra is out and I haven't bought any for a while. (
and when I did the contra was used by the redistribution centre.) This
crime increase has been seen in the last turn since host 190. Is it a
    bug?

Also the use of HG and troops are supposed to decrease crime by a
certain amount depending on the amount of HG and Troops on the planet.
IS it the case that its either the HG or the Troops doing the crime
reducing or is it both? I have a world with 7000 HG and 6 Million
troops and the crime is still only dropping by 5 points a turn. (This
has been the same for a while and not just in the last host.)

    Auuugh!

I just captured a base that had 280,000kt of spice. My crime rating
went up to 4794. Now I know why.

Perhaps overall crime rating should be reported on tax report in the
same way that happiness and native happiness are.

I *THINK* just that world, but I think it then spreads out too...

Tim says the maths is "weird". I saw crime fluctuate - a lot - even when
no contra trading was going on in my test game. I suspect a bug

    It's meant to be both

This could be the case if you have a small amount of crime. The more you have the more is the reduction.
What's the amount of crime you have?
