No no, there's must be something wrong, your system should be able to handle HD5670 just fine...

Is that your board?
What version of HD5670? 2.0 or 2.1?
I guess you bought that board in 2006, so most likely it only has 1.1 pcie slot version, so if your current card is 2.1 then you have compatibility problem, updating BIOS usually solve the problem...

That's it, you have compatibility issue, because that card is 2.1 and your board is 1.0 or 1.1 version. Well, you must update (flash) your BIOS mobo with the latest one.
I never flash BIOS before so I couldn't explain how to flash. Maybe Malmetal knows?

Flashing the bios is pretty easy nowadays. The most common way is to download the relevant .exe file and execute it.It will automatically restart the system, flash the old BIOS with the new one and restart again.

If you cannot find a bios update, then try to find a PCI-E 2.0 card.

Even I am having the same problem. I am using a asus en210 silent graphics card and have the same specs as ajmessi. In the device manager it shows a problem with my pci slot asking me to update the bios. But the bios update on mercury's website is old. Can someone please help me out?

And in ubuntu or any other linux distribution the graphics card runs without a problem.
