Hey i'm going to be building a new computer for wow soon, as my old one has past its prime, and i've been looking round, and i was just wondering what performance eg. fps would i expect to get with say with a amd II athlon x4 640, 4gb ddr3 ram, sapphire 5770

That would depend on the resolution you are going to be running WoW at.

Toms did a test of CPU performance in WoW: Cataclysm (link to page showing performance with an athlon II X4 640 and nVidia GTX 480) which shows WoW have a preference for Intel CPUs, and as other tests have shown, that it also prefers nVidia GPUs, so, if you could give us a budget, maybe we could come up with a decent build for you.

If interested, fill out the How To Ask For New Build Advice form and post it.

Ok well im looking at a low resoultion with my current montior, probably somewhere between 1024x768-1280x1024, so what could i expect with ultra/high settings if able

Also I live in New Zealand so the build you list me will probably about 20-30% more expensive in New Zealand as there isn't much demand for computer parts eg.

If u going cheap/AM3 but 1920 x 1080 AA/AF : PhenomII X3 with L3 is the sweet spot for WOW: Cata L3 alone nets ya 20-25% gain over no L3

So for just 1280 x 1024 i would think Rana X3 + HD 4770 would be good to go so your choice of Propus X4/HD 5770 is good to go

In fact on Egg one could slap on a cheapo WOW rig with $70 Rana X3 + $60 HD 4830
