Can you recommend a motherboard that will take my AMD Athlon 6400+ CPU, and allow me to use DDR3 RAM? I also need as many PCI-E and PCI slots as possible, due to my GeForce 550GTX covering two slots. I need SATA1 slots to attach 2 HDD's. This MoBo is to fit into a standard PC tower case, not a mini or micro.

The other two guys are right, so I'm going to go ahead and recommend some stuff for you. I don't know your price range, but I can confidently say that you can upgrade your system sub 300 dollars. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103851 is a pretty popular AMD processor and is affordable at 150 dollars. AM3 sockets are all over the place. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131736 might be pushing it a bit, but try it out. Three PCIx16 slots, most problems seem to be DOA and minor issues with Bios.

Thanks for your help guys,
I had sort of come to that conclusion myself. It's a minefield out there when it comes to Motherboards and CPU's. Will check out those links.

Thanks again.

I checked out your recommendations, but I think I want to go as far ahead as I can afford in an upgrade.
I was thinking of buying the AMD Bulldozer FX-4100 Quad Core 3.6GHz - Asus M5A78L-M USB3 HDMI Motherboard - 8GB DDR3.
Any reasons I shouldn't or anything in particular I should be aware of?
