i want to add an additional 2g,s of ram to the 1 g i have, any help would be appreciated.

I have a dell vostro 400 with 1g of ram. I am running windows XP 2000 professional with Service pack 3

Well this is what u can do.

Dell Vostro 400 RAM upgrade and 2x 1GB 311-6407 PC2-6400 240-PIN DDR2 800MHz :

Are the slots for the memory easy to recognize. I have installed memory in a computer before but a long time ago. Thanks, Ken

Yes, its easy, just dont touch the connectors and hold it by the edges.
