Old hard drive in new built

Hi, i am building a new computer and i want to use a hard drive from my old computer. I am wondering is there any i need to do the the hard drive b4 i can use it? I heard that I need to slave it first b4 i can use it, but i don't get what it means.

B.S. You can use any hard disks in a new pc any way you want as long as the technology is supported. Say, it's an IDE, then you need a mobo or an addon card with IDE.

Slaving means connecting the drive to the middle connector of the cable. It doesn't work that way any more in modern pc. You can rearrange the harddisk order to your liking in bios.
