Hello everyone, :D

Well I have decided to upgrade both my current monitor (19 inch 1440 x 900 resolution ) to a 22 inch (1920x1080 Resolution) and also my current graphics card ( Radeon HD 5770 vapour X - with a big overclock ) to a Radeon HD 5870 and I have a few questions to ask you learned computer masters. :kaola:

1. Will my other system specifications (see below in signature ) bottleneck this beast of a card?

2. Will my setup with the Hd5870 be able to max out the majority of games for example; crysis, mafia 2, need for speed hot pursuit, Dirt 2, Bad compant 2 - at 1920 x 1080

3. Lastly considering that my motherboard has x8/x8 crossfire capability would you say that this card is future proof for the next three years, I would reluctantly buy another for crossfire if it would increase the future proof-ed-ness :na:

Thank you very much for all of your opinions and answers and I look foward to hearing from you!

Adam

1. You will not get a bottleneck.
2. Your setup should max out the majority of games.
3. You could consider yourself future proof with your setup.
Your PSU cannot handle a 5870 as it only has 1 6-pin power connector. Get a bettet PSU.

I was planning to use a molex to 6pin PCI connector. It says on the ATI website that all you need is a 500watt psu? are you sure that mine will not work?

Here are the exact specs

According to Tom's review, the ATI 5870 would use approx 354W in a system @ LOAD with an i7-975 @ 3.3Ghz.

So I'm guessing that they are indicating on the graphic that the 481.5watts is output on the 5v, 3.3v, and 12v. Assuming there are truly two separate rails, and each can handle it's own 18A, you'd be looking at 36A*12v = 432Watts. So you should still be okay, assuming you don't pull the 152w max on the 5v & 3.3v lines. :)  481.5W - 152W = 329.5W

You should be fine. However, you certainly don't want to push two of these on this power supply.

Sorry for my lack of knowledge. Yes, you can use a molex and you should be fine. I just corrected myself. +1^ He said it first :)
